  • The Hardware Engineer supports the design, development, and integration of all types of IT and RF hardware for the system infrastructure, focusing on system-level IT hardware implementation and documentation
  • Provides engineering support throughout the system lifecycle, including hardware system design, development, integration and deployment
  • Develops and maintains system documentation for each step in the lifecycle while working as part of a multidisciplinary team of Hardware, Network, Radio Frequency (RF), and systems engineers as well as system administrators and DevOps engineers to deliver fully functional satellite ground systems infrastructure
  • Designs, generates, and maintains IT infrastructure documentation, including system interconnect documents, cable tables, and installation and test plans
  • Considers power, cooling, and other impacts of integrating new systems, while developing lab and site installation and initial testing procedures
  • Maintains essential documentation including Bills of Materials (BOMs), rack layouts, and system architecture diagrams
  • Works with other teams, and stakeholders to test and troubleshoot data flows across integrated systems
  • Work involves installing, integrating, and testing system-level IT infrastructure including servers, routers, network switches, firewalls, and some specialty ground hardware and RF components, implemented in accordance with installation best practices and established hardware processes

Qualifications

  • Active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain TS/SCI
  • Minimum of advanced degree with 7 years of experience, or Bachelors with 9 years - will take experience in lieu of degree
  • Demonstrated experience in system-level IT hardware integration and testing 
  • Understanding of data center infrastructure including power, cooling, and space requirements
  • Experience creating and maintaining critical design documentation
  • Must possess strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work effectively within a team environment
  • Strong understanding of IT data center infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, workstations, and servers
  • Experience with system integration projects, documentation development, and the full engineering lifecycle of delivering new IT infrastructure is highly valued
  • Additionally, experience with RF devices and systems, as well as a foundation in RF principles, is preferred

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly sit, walk, stand and climb stairs and steps. May require walking long distance from parking to work station. Occasionally, movement that requires twisting at the neck and/or trunk more than the average person, squatting/ stooping/kneeling, reaching above the head, and forward motion will be required. The employee will continuously be required to repeat the same hand, arm, or finger motion many times. Manual and finger dexterity are essential to this position. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, depth perception and telling differences among colors. The employee must be able to communicate through speech with clients and public. Hearing requirements include conversation in both quiet and noisy environments. Lifting may require floor to waist, waist to shoulder, or shoulder to overhead movement of up to 20 pounds. This position demands tolerance for various levels of mental stress.
